So I really don't think my LO is getting sick (well I'm praying to God he isn't at least)- but he's got a pretty raspy cry. He's 10 days old and his breathing is fine, he has a TINY bit of congestion but I also live in Midwest where it's 1 degree outside so I have my heat on and dry heat causes all of us in my apartment to get a TINY bit congested, he's eating fine, pooping, peeing, he DID get diagnosed with thrush a few days ago so we started the Nyastin med 3 times a day, but my question is, would the dry heat cause this? I'm not taking my LO out at all right now bc of the flu season being so bad. only place he's going with us is his doctor and my doctor and to be honest, unless I know like for sure he's sick I don't want to take him in to Pediatrician BC everyone going to that office is sick right now and they arnt taking any sort of extra precautions for newborns (seperate room for kids with flu)- I do plan on calling Ped this afternoon, but I just wanted some insight bc I haven't seen this in all 4 of my babies he's the first to sound like this so I'm wondering if hubby should grab a humidifier today before going to work

My baby had this too! A humidifier helped the raspiness and also helped with the minor congestion he had.

thanks for the response! I'm glad this sounds somewhat normal. I really try not to freak out but I have high string anxiety as is most of the time and I'm so worried with this stupid flu season. I figured it had something to do with dry heat since my 14 month old wakes up slightly congested too and so do I and DH.

I also live in the Midwest and we are in the exact same situation and taking the exact same precautions (don't want to go to the pediatrician bc everyone there is sick too). We bring LO in the bathroom while we shower twice a day, then use saline nose drops, and then do nose Frida. This was all recommended by our pediatrician. She is not febrile so out pediatrician was comfortable letting us manage on our own. We also have a cool mist humidifier and keep our apartment temp at 66 (it is cold but its made a difference if you bundle everyone up). We sometimes do the nose Frida more often too.

My LO scared us with a raspy cry around two weeks old. It went away the next day. After that we did start occasionally putting him in the bathroom while we shower to get some humidified air.

Mine had this too! Every time we’ve been to the doctor for weight checks the past couple weeks (like 3 times a week) I’ve asked them to listen to his lungs because I felt like he sounded hoarse and that he sounds like I sound when I don’t feel good. Every time they’ve said he sounds just fine and that they aren’t concerned though, and that it’s normal.

thank you everyone for responses, I am feeling a little better about it bc I'm also hearing that the thrush he has can cause this too which makes sense cuz it would cause more inflammation/mucous and that combined with dry heat probably is just making his throat irritable. He's still eating and sleeping well and pooping and peeing and no fever so I'm not super concerned. I also have been turning my kitchen sink on pretty hot and holding him above the steam a few times until I can get a decent humidifier. We're in a small apartment and as of right now he's staying in his swing during the day in our living room and I also have a rambunctious 14 month old so we're trying to figure out where we can keep baby with humidifier but he seems better then he was this morning which is comforting.
